spiral eyes (that is, cartoon characters with spirals where their eyes or pupils should be)
it's a visceral thing for me so explaining why i do is a little tricky, spirals (placed near the eyes or otherwise) simply carry a lot of meaning for me personally.
(dekko is suuuuuch a kewl villan :)
the spiral conveys a sense of infinity, there being no upper limit on how many coils(?) reside in a single spiral it could theoretically loop round and round *forever*. so when they're placed over the eyes i get an implication that a character is seeing into the infinite HyperDimensionalAethericSpiritVoidRealm or whatever. i think it could also be interpreted as an overload of knowledge on a person (there are many a fictional character that sought ultimate knowledge of reality and mentally broke upon achieving their goal.) this would be more in line with the spiral eyes representing dizzyness.
so wide...
brrrring brrrring, hello is this the SILLY department???? teehee
there's this line in a book of chaos magic i own which speculates (if i'm recalling this correctly) that a fractal is the closest thing we have to a complete understanding of the nature of (chaos) the universe, that solutions beget further questions and we can only hope to seek ever increasing complexities. it makes sense to me that something like spiral eyes would be used to convey a kind of dizzying awe at the world.
Junji Ito's Uzumaki delves into spiral symbolism really really well, i think it's an obvious thing to mention but that's all im gonna say 'bout it, awesome read if you like grotesque visual horror.
also, although i've been working on living mindfully, i tend to get lost in my imagination a lot. so i find the "dizzy" idea of spiral eyes to be relatable in that sense.
maybe if i space out enough, i'll see the stars......
